As we approach the city StationLush green spaces were replaced by brutalist architecture, disused railway carriages remained on the side of the road, and old shipping containers converted into grocery stores emerged. Among all this architectural uniqueness, hidden behind the trees is the Dungan Mosque. The blue wooden building, shaped like a pagoda instead of a minaret, was built as a place of worship for Chinese Muslims fleeing persecution in the 1880s. The structure is made entirely without nails, and the images, including the fire wheel, reflect the Dungans’ Buddhist past.
