Major search efforts at sea for the man who disappeared after the boat trip

A massive search is underway for a man believed to have gone missing while on a solo boat tour off the Pembrokeshire coast.

Police, coastguard and RNLI volunteers were alerted after Chris Ellery did not return home from Fishguard as planned on Thursday afternoon.

His family lost contact on Wednesday, and his daughter Kenzie took to social media to help in the search for her father. “We’re desperately trying to find him,” he said Facebook post.

HM Coastguard confirmed that a search around north Pembrokeshire, Cardigan Bay and St Brides Bay, involving an aircraft, several RNLI boat crews, two coastguard crews and police, was restarted on Saturday.

“He goes on these solo trips regularly and is always very prepared when situations go wrong,” Kenzie said.

“This is such an outlier as we haven’t been able to hear from or contact him.”

He said his father had an Apple AirTag that tracks the wearer’s movements and “shows when he was last at sea, so he is more likely to be seen in coastal areas than on land.”

“We all need him to be home and we pray he stays safe,” she added.

Kenzie said her belongings were found by police and coast guard in a bay reached by boat.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed land and sea searches began on Friday following a call from Avon and Somerset Police.

Search efforts were suspended for one night and resumed on Saturday.

HM Coastguard confirmed that rescue aircraft were involved in the search, including two of their crews from Fishguard and St Davids, as well as several RNLI lifeboat crews from Fishguard, St Davids, Cardigan, Little Haven and Broad Haven, and a police maritime search team.
