Definitely Come Dance Pro Amy Dowden has given her first live TV interview since collapsing backstage during last week’s live show.

The dancer appeared Definitely spin off It Takes Two on Friday (November 1), after it was announced earlier this week that she would not be dancing alongside partner JB Gill in this Saturday’s live show.

Dowden, 34, who only returned to the competition this year following treatment for breast cancer, told host Janette Manrara that she was feeling “much better”.

He also thanked fans for their well wishes and praised his partner Gill for her support.

Gill and professional dancer Lauren Oakley, who stepped in to cover Dowden this week, accompanied Dowden. It Takes Two.

Dowden said: “JB was so supportive of me… the two of them texted all week.”

Oakley later revealed that they had set up a WhatsApp group to keep Dowden updated with videos of their rehearsals.

Independent contacted the BBC about when Definitely fans can expect Dowden to return to the main show.

An ambulance was called to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood on 26 October after Dowden fell ill backstage after his dance and was taken to hospital. The dancer’s spokesman later said the ambulance was “only a precaution”.

Oakley finished eighth, partnering Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy. Definitelyhad no partner this year, the previous season. He first joined the show in 2022.

Gill and Dowden performed a foxtrot to Toploader’s “Dancing in the Moonlight” last Saturday, scoring 32 points before the professional dancer fell ill backstage. He did not attend the results show last Sunday.

Dowden returned to the squad this year after missing the 2023 series when she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023, aged just 32, after noticing a lump in her breast the day before leaving for her honeymoon.

When he was diagnosed with another type of cancer that same year, he started chemotherapy. Despite medical concerns after a check-up earlier this year, doctors told Dowden everything was fine.

Dowden also has Crohn’s disease, a lifelong bowel disease that causes chronic intestinal inflammation.
