Earlier this year, reported He said Google is working on a change to read receipts within the Messages app. Now it looks like this change is starting to roll out to some users, and it looks like it’s gotten a new animation as well.

A read receipt is an indicator that tells you that your message has been sent, sent, received, and read. These four states are represented by timer, single control, double control, and color-filled double control, respectively. In its current version Google MessagesThe read receipt usually appears below the text bubble, sandwiched between the time/date and the RCS encryption lock icon.

As previously mentioned, there was a report back in August that read receipts had been moved to a new location. Instead of sitting outside and below the text bubble, Google placed the receipt inside the bubble. We’ve seen this change in the latest beta version of the Google Messages app (message.android_20241029_00_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic version), which you can now see in the video above. But more importantly, the change seems to be starting to spread some users.

But displacement isn’t the only new thing here. If you watch closely, Google has added a new little animation to the read receipts. The video above provides a close-up view of this animation in action.
