Sekhukhune United conveyed its condolences to the family of the little girl who died in the traffic accident involving its football player Shaune Mogaila.

Nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela was tragically killed in a horrific head-on collision on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa on Wednesday.

Gomolemo was traveling with his mother and 13-year-old neighbor in his red Hyundai Grand i10 when it collided with Mogaila’s BMW M2.

It was stated that the mother and the 13-year-old child, who were taken to the hospital, were fighting for their lives.

A video of the crash has since been posted on social media showing Mogaila losing control of his car and crashing into another car driving in the opposite lane.

Mogaila, who will appear in the Tembisa magistrates court today (Friday), surrendered to the police after fleeing the scene of the accident.

Alcohol and white powder, believed to be cocaine, were allegedly found in Mogaila’s car.

Sekhukhune released a statement confirming the incident and also expressed his condolences to Gomolemo’s family.

“Sekhukhune United FC is saddened to learn of the unfortunate incident involving one of our players, Shaune Mogaila,” the club statement said.

“We would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family of the little boy who lost his life.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.

The club stated that they would not comment further as the matter is currently before the courts.
