Fire devastates Marina RV Park in Montgomery County, families lose homes

A devastating late-night fire at the Stow-A-Way Marina and RV Campground in Lake Conroe left three families homeless after the flames engulfed the park, incinerating everything in its path.

Lou Cinda White, one of the residents who lost her house in the fire, explained the sad incident. “I was devastated, so devastated… I lost everything,” White said. The fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m., sending Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies rushing to the scene where they encountered numerous trailers, trees, cars and golf carts engulfed in flames.

White remembers waking his family and alerting his neighbors. “I knew it was time to go, to get out,” he recalled.

Neighbor Sheila Belk described the chaos: “Within minutes, three mobile homes, trailers, gone, gone.”

First responders responded to the fire, which caused propane tanks to explode and live ammunition to be discharged. Firefighters spent three hours extinguishing hot spots and flames that reached 60 feet high.

A woman of deep faith despite the horrific circumstances, White expressed gratitude for the community’s solidarity. Donations and prayers have been pouring in for him from neighbors and well-wishers.

“This community has been amazing. Everyone has done nothing but good things,” White shared, highlighting the growing support.

Belk added, “It’s great. Everyone was there for him and we’ll continue to be here for him.”

White, her grandchild, her roommate, and their dog, cat, and kitten were uninjured. Surprised but grateful, White noted the kindness he experienced: “People are good, God is good.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office.
