North Carolina indie OGs Superchunk like to dress up as another band for Halloween every once in a while. In 2020, for example, Superchunk emerged as goth greats Sisters Of Mercy, or at least heralded Sisters.Alice” Halloween is on the 7th. It’s been a while, but now Superchunk is back with another one and they’ve got help. Superchunk’s new Halloween 7″ has recently signed with Merge and “Ghost” And “Pink Smoke.”

Superchunk releasing his own single “everyone dies” Earlier this year, we covered Portland’s much-missed power trio Dead Moon. Dead Moon was once an institution, but drummer Andrew Loomis passed away and lead singer Fred Cole in 2016 dead a year later. Both of these losses absolutely suck. If you’re at a show and you see someone wearing a Dead Moon shirt, you’re at the right show. Superchunk’s cover of “Fire In The Western World”, a smash hit from Dead Moon’s 1992 album Say a Strange Prayerand they attack the song with fiery urgency.

As for the Quivers, they had the daunting task of performing “Pass The Ratchet, I Think I’m Goodkind,” the 11-minute epic that opened Yo La Tengo’s 2006 album. I’m Not Afraid of You and I’ll Kick Your Ass. The full cover of this song wouldn’t fit on one side of the split 7″, but Quivers tightened it up by making it a bit smaller while retaining the song’s psychedelic harmonic swirl.
