Candy Devine named ‘inspiration’ after legendary broadcaster’s death – The Irish News

Tributes payment made to old City Center Radio publisher Candy DevineThe person who died at the age of 85.

Candy returned to Australia after her husband’s death.

He is survived by his four children, including Brisbane-based celebrity chef Alastair McLeod.

Downtown content director Stuart Robinson said in a statement that he grew up listening to Candy’s show and it was “a huge honor” to finally work with her.

“Candy was a well-known name on radio in Northern Ireland, having been based in Downtown from its founding in 1976 until its retirement in 2013,” he said.



“Candy was a great broadcaster and communicator and inspired many aspiring broadcasters from the radio industry.”

Former Downtown newsreader and Sky News senior Ireland correspondent David Blevins described her as “a woman’s saint” in a post, adding: “I will cherish the memories of the banter we shared.”

Former Downtown host John Rosborough said of Candy in a social media post: “She was a wonderful colleague and an outstanding broadcaster; he was loved by local audiences and is greatly missed after returning to Australia to be with his family. “I offer them my deepest condolences at this saddest time.”
