Police say officers clashed with ‘hostile’ baseball fans in Los Angeles after Dodgers win World Series

The “hostile” crowd that gathered near 9th and Flower streets late Wednesday was considered an unlawful assembly, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement on social media.

“Leave the area immediately and comply with all officers’ orders,” the department said on social media.

After police gave the order to disperse, the crowd began moving east toward 8th Avenue, police said.

“Various projectiles are fired at LAPD officers in the Olympic area & Grand,” the department added. “Extra resources are responding to this area to assist. If you are on the street, at or adjacent to that intersection, leave the area immediately and obey the officers’ orders.”

Police said they also received reports of looting nearby.

Mayor Karen Bass had previously warned that “violence will not be tolerated” as the city celebrates its victory over the New York Yankees.

“LAPD is currently on tactical alert and has activated a strategic plan to protect communities and businesses,” he said, “which includes proactive deployment and a coordinated strategy with regional partners to ensure all Angelenos can celebrate safely.”
