Just off Highway 101, with a front row view of the Pacific Ocean, Spyglass Inn Restaurant has become more than just a scenic spot for patrons.

“These views are just, you can’t beat that. This is truly amazing,” said Pismo Beach resident Debi Burdmen-Deutsch.

“I love coming here because it’s like everyone knows your name,” Arroyo Grande resident Linda McGinley said. “It’s a friendly place where people love to come.”

“They’ve been taking care of me here through Pismo since the late ’90s, and as a guy living in Shell Beach, it’s nice to have good people taking care of you,” said Shell Beach resident Leo Savalan.

But after 37 years, the restaurant’s lease has expired and staff say the owners have opted not to renew it as they approach retirement.

“They have grandchildren and they want to spend all their time with them and love life,” Burdmen-Deutsch said. he said. “And it’s time to retire.”

News of the closing came as a surprise to stewardess Debbie Hannah. His last day at work this week was emotional.

“I cried so much and now I have tears in my eyes,” said Hannah. “This is not for money. “It was to get me out of the house, and what could be better than getting out of the house and looking at the ocean and talking to people all day?”

There is no word yet on the future of the restaurant space, according to the building’s owner, Spyglass Inn Hotel.
