Election 2024: What’s on the ballot in West Tennessee?

JACKSON, Tenn. — With celebrity endorsements and campaign ads focused on the presidential and Senate races, we’re shining a light on what else local voters have on the ballot.

HARDIN & CROCKETT COUNTY

Voters in Hardin and Crockett counties will notice that there are items on the ballot that will impact the neighborhood near them. Hardin County residents will have the opportunity to vote Tennessee House of Representatives In the 71st District, the candidates are incumbents Kip Capley and Tim Coy.

However, voters in Adamsville will have the opportunity to vote for or against the sale of alcoholic beverages at retail package stores. As well as the legal sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption. If voters vote for any of these referendums, voters would agree that mixed drinks, wine, and beer should be consumed on-site at restaurants and bars, and packaged wine, liquor, and beer should be sold on designated days and hours.

The mayoral election is also on the ballot for Saltillo residents. Current Mayor Gregory Billings and David Willis are candidates.

Finally, in Crockett County, the Town of Alamo will have the opportunity to vote for or against a referendum regarding alcohol consumption on the premises.

MADISON, GIBSON & CARROLL COUNTY

The Tennessee House of Representatives District 80 position is on the ballot, starting with Madison County. Incumbent Johnny Shaw and Brad Grantham are running for the position.

Carroll County residents can vote for their 76th district representative. Incumbent Tandy Darby and James Hurt are vying for the title.

In Huntingdon, the town’s mayoral position is on the ballot. Current Mayor Nina Smothers and Chad Edwards are options for residents to choose from.

In Gibson County, the mayor of Dyer City is on the ballot, with current Mayor Chris Younger also running, along with Jim Hesse.

The mayoral position is also on the ballot for Medina residents. Scottie Betts and Sammy Giley are running as independents.

Finally, the town of Rutherford has three mayoral candidates, including current Mayor Sandra Simpson, James Roach, and Eddie Watkins.

Thursday, October 31 will be the last day of early voting in Tennessee.

During Election Day on Tuesday, November 5, voters will need to cast their ballots at a designated voting precinct.
