ROLESVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — A long-awaited and eagerly awaited construction project in the heart of Rolesville has suffered a significant delay.

Rolesville Main Street Project is set to deliver a major makeover to the busiest intersection in the city, adjacent to the upcoming Cobblestone Village. According to original plans, the project was supposed to be completed in mid-September.

“As you can see, that’s not the case,” store owner Jenny Sellars said. he has SuzAnna’s Antiques at the intersection of Young Street and N Main Street in Rolesville.

Sellars said store revenue at his location dropped 50 percent due to the delay.

“Because customers can’t find us,” he said.

There are currently fewer than five unreserved parking spaces. There are normally more than a dozen.

Town officials attribute the delay in construction to underground problems that were not initially discovered. For example, the City of Raleigh’s existing water line is in disrepair and contains leaks that need to be replaced. Additionally, an underground fuel tank was left behind an old gas station near the intersection. This discovery led to the relocation of a nearby gas line and power lines that needed to be addressed due to the tank.

At an Oct. 22 meeting with town commissioners, town manager Eric Marsh said officials and crews must obtain the appropriate permits and coordinate with NCDOT and other agencies before moving forward. This delay could last until the end of spring or early summer of 2025, they said.

“We will hold out as long as we can. I hope to hold out until the intersection opens. But it’s really unclear what we can do,” Sellars said. “It’s a difficult situation. Very challenging.”
