TAYLOR, Mich. – A neurologist facing trial on 35 charges appeared in court Tuesday to surrender his medical license.

He was found not guilty Tuesday afternoon in a count of conspiracy that involved him allegedly writing false prescriptions for dangerous opioids and then creating false medical bills to make millions of dollars.

Taylor police said Garg’s clinic on Telegraph Road was known as the place where the doctor would prescribe painkillers whether you needed them or not, fueling addiction and all that comes with it.

Taylor police Detective Jeff Adamin, who has been working on the case for four years, said thousands of patients go to Garg to buy pills.

“To prescribe these pills without the necessary legal medical justification for prescribing it — not only is it illegal, but the addiction and the overdoses and the deaths that result from that are horrific, not just in this city, not just in this state,” Adamin said in September.

Authorities have so far identified 16 bank accounts containing millions of dollars.

Garg faces 35 charges

Garg was charged with 35 charges of illegal prescribing, falsifying medical records and health care fraud.

Garg was released on $100,000 personal recognizance.
