I am writing about Marc Levy’s October 21 Associated Press article: “Some Jewish voters in swing states are reconsidering their longstanding allegiance to Democrats.”

If you, like me, are a lifelong Jewish Democrat and are considering voting Republican for the first time because you think Trump is better for Jews, please think again. Trump was, and will remain, if elected, the most dangerous president possible for the Jewish people. His record is clear.

He praised white nationalist marchers who held an anti-Semitic rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, injuring 30 people and killing one, and shouted, “Jews will not replace us.” Trump called them “very fine people,” setting off a wave of anti-Semitism that has yet to subside in this country and around the world. Is it good for Jews? No way.

In 2018, he ended the nuclear deal President Obama negotiated with Iran, allowing Iran to enrich uranium, which it began doing less than two years later. Is it good for Jews? No way.

Also in 2018, when the Etz Chaim Synagogue in Pittsburgh was attacked by a white supremacist, killing 11 congregants, Trump made sure Congress took no action to ban assault rifles and continued to support assault rifle ownership. Is it good for Jews? No way.

In 2020, when Trump lost the election by more than 7 million votes, he sought to overthrow the government by preventing the peaceful transfer of power, killing six more people, injuring 174 police officers, lying about election results, and challenging the rule of law. into the gutter as he has done many times before and since. He was convicted earlier this year on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. As Jews, the rule of law and integrity are integral to our existence. Are Trump’s efforts to ignore the rule of law and his constant lying good for Jews? No way.

While president, he packed the Supreme Court with right-wing justices who ruled that women did not have the right to decide what was best for their own bodies. Human rights and justice are fundamental to what it means to be Jewish. Is Trump’s hatred of the most basic human rights: women’s control over their own bodies good for Jews or anyone else? No way.

For all these reasons and many more reasons too many to fit here, please do not elect Trump and instead help Kamala Harris continue to repair the world, not destroy it.
