DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office confirms one person is dead in a double shooting near Summerville Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sawbranch Trail near the Newington Subdivision pool, Lt. Chaz Easterlin said.

Deputies say two people were shot. One of them died and the other was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators do not have a description of the gunman, Easterlin said, adding that the scene shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday remains under active investigation.

The Summerville Police Department, Dorchester County Emergency Services and Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s name.
