CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — An employee at Cedar Springs Public Schools (CSPS) has been placed on leave after district officials learned he was being investigated for allegedly possessing child pornography.

In a letter sent to families, the district said the man was notified Aug. 26 that he was being investigated for allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material and using a computer to commit a crime. He was later placed on administrative leave.

The suspect was said to have been arrested after weeks of investigation.

“The employee did not work directly with students, and we have no indication that any of our students were involved,” the district writes.

CSPS says all employees undergo stringent background checks before being hired and are then provided with “ongoing training” to ensure all students are safe in their learning environment.
