Conway man accused of serial sexual assault in ongoing cases denied bail for third time

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Bond was denied by a judge for the third time Tuesday afternoon. Conway man accused of serial sexual assault in unsolved cases.

Randy Earl Barnhill is accused of multiple counts of sexual assault between 2000 and 2006, according to police. The charges include first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, high and aggravated assault, first- and second-degree burglary, and lewd and lascivious exposure of private parts.

Barnhill’s attorney was seeking bail because a long period of time had passed without a court date. Barnhill was last denied bond in May 2023. They also argued that he was not convicted and that other suspects accused of crimes such as murder were posting bail every day.

No trial date has been set for Barnhill, but a prosecutor said Tuesday they are close to that date.

Barnhill has a criminal record in South Carolina dating back to 1989, according to a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Background Check obtained by News13. In August 1989, he was found guilty of assault and battery of a high and serious nature. He was sentenced to seven years in prison with four years of probation suspended.
