FORT WAYNE, Ind.(WPTAAn Indiana mother has been charged in connection with a shooting at her daughter’s high school Halloween party that left one person dead and nine others injured, according to authorities.

On Oct. 10, police were called to the home owned by 42-year-old Joanna Eastes after multiple callers reported hearing gunshots and seeing people running in all directions.

When police arrived at the scene, they found one person dead and several people shot.

Authorities identified the deceased as 17-year-old Willie Venzell Ivy III.

During the investigation, it was determined that Ivy was the first person to shoot at nine people aged between 14 and 20. WPTA reported.

Authorities said the party was being held for Easte’s daughter’s best friend. But Easte’s daughter told police she didn’t know her best friend’s full name.

Eastes allegedly admitted there were more than 100 people at the party, most of whom were under the age of 21.

However, the mother-daughter duo claimed to the police that they were in their room at the time of the conflict.

While investigating, police learned that Eastes’ daughter had sent a flyer listing their home as the location of the party and advising those attending to bring alcohol and marijuana. WPTA reported.

Social media posts also showed young children dancing and drinking in the house before the shooting.

Crime scene photos showed alcohol throughout the house, including Eastes’ daughter’s bedroom.

Both Eastes and her daughter acknowledged that attendees consumed alcohol during the party but denied any drug use.

The 42-year-old mother is accused of neglecting a dependent, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing alcohol to a minor.

Detectives asked why Eastes didn’t call the police to break up the party.

Eastes responded, “What was I supposed to do?” he allegedly asked.

Eastes’ first hearing in the case will be held on Wednesday.
