Churches in Ramona are holding two fall events.

Mountain View Community Church will hold its 22nd Harvest Festival on Thursday, October 31, and First Congregational Church of Ramona, Ramona United Methodist Church, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are planning a joint Turkey Dinner on Sunday. 10 November.

Both events are open to the public.

The Harvest Festival will take place on Halloween night from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mountain View Community Church, 1191 Meadowlark Way.

The event will include a Trunk or Treat section with carnival games and candy for children, a rock climbing wall, a hayride, a mechanical bull ride and a cake walk. There will also be live country music performances with a dance floor for line dancing.

Heather Winters, director of children’s ministries for the church, said the Harvest Festival gets bigger every year. If people choose to buy dinner or snacks, the sole cost will be borne by food vendors, Winters said.

“We are able to do this for free because we have local businesses donating funds for it and the congregation provides candy and volunteer power,” he said. “It is designed to be a fun activity that not only the kids but the whole family can enjoy.”

Winter said some families may want to attend the Harvest Festival after taking their kids trick-or-treating on Main Street during the Ramona Chamber of Commerce’s Merchants Safe Trick-or-Treating event on Halloween night from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Kids can come in costumes and get candy,” she said. “There will be a lot to do that night.”

Community Turkey Dinner, 404 Eighth St. It will be held at the First Congregational Church of Ramona from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Dinner will feature a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberry Jello salad, rolls, and a choice of pumpkin pie or apple crisp for dessert.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door. A half portion sells for $7. Active-duty soldiers and first responders can purchase a full plate of food for $7 per person.

Brenda Aguas, Ramona United Methodist Church coordinator for the event, said members of all three churches helped sell tickets and worked in the kitchen all three days leading up to dinner.

He said they prepared enough food for approximately 400 people.

Aquas said churches are reaching out to people in need and offering them free tickets.

“Some people give us money to donate tickets to those in need,” he said. “The community is coming together.”

Dinner will be served in the Pilgrim Hall of the First Congregational Church on the east side of the church. Guests can sit down to eat or get their meals to-go.
