Car theft suspects lead Coweta deputies on chase, resulting in crash

Two suspects were arrested after they allegedly carjacked a woman at gunpoint and led Coweta County deputies on a car chase that ended in a crash.

It happened Monday when Coweta County deputies were called to an area on Hyde Circle in reference to a carjacking that had just occurred.

The victim told authorities that two suspects approached him, then held him at gunpoint and stole his car. A deputy found the car driving on Georgia 34.

When a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the car, the driver refused and a chase ensued, Coweta County officials said.

During the chase, the car crashed near the 1100 block of Lora Smith Road following a PIT maneuver. One of the suspects was caught shortly after the suspects fled to the forest area.

Hours later, the sheriff’s office said a second suspect was in custody. Deputies said they found two handguns at the scene.

Arnall Middle School and White Oak Elementary School were quarantined due to the location of the incident.

The ages and identities of the suspects were not disclosed.
