Actor Shaun Evans will return to screens following the cancellation of his previous ITV show.

The series focuses on the real-life experiences of Delia Balmer, who dated murderer and serial killer John Sweeney.

Set in the ’90s, the series follows the pair’s relationship, Delia’s near-fatal attack, and the shocking discovery of her ex-boyfriend’s crimes.

The series will be a mirror real life Events in 1994, three years into their relationship, included Delia panicking after finding rope, tape and gloves under the bed they shared.

Sweeney held her captive for four days, raping her repeatedly before attempting to kill her with a wooden axe.

Delia lived to tell the tale and saw her ex-partner put behind bars for his assault on her and the double murder of two of his ex-girlfriends.

The new series will portray the horrific crimes in a four-part series on ITV from Sunday, November 3.

The new ITV drama is Evans’ first role since being fired from Endeavor and sees him in the lead role. Mission Area star Anna Maxwell Martin.

Evans’ other acting credits include Vigil, The Take, Whitechapel and The Scandalous Lady W.

Endeavor saw Evans play the role of young DS Endeavor Morse until the crime detective series ended after nine seasons.

Speaking to Woman&Home, Evans explained why the show came to a natural end: “You can’t please everyone all the time.

“What we wanted to do was finish Endeavor in a way that was befitting of the tremendous work we have put in over the last 10 years, as well as the huge support we have received from audiences each year.”

Evans, now in a very different role as serial killer John Sweeney, has seen him on the other side of the world. law begins to confront the dark side of the notorious killer.

The new ITV drama series also includes: Downton AbbeyKevin Doyle and Amanda Wilkin from Finding Alice.

Until I Kill You starts on Sunday, November 3 at 9pm on ITV.
