The 43rd edition of the CFDA Fashion Awards takes place tonight at the American Museum of Natural History; where guests once again gathered to toast the best of American fashion under the iconic blue whale. The night’s host is Cynthia Erivo; she’s wearing a custom Gap by Zac Posen look and continuing her red carpet style dressing (or not) in honor of her upcoming role as Elphaba. Bad. Raul Lopez, on behalf of Luar, became the first winner of the night with the American Accessory Designer of the Year award.

Other designers honored tonight include Michael Kors, who was awarded the Positive Change Award for his work with Watch Hunger Stop, God’s Love We Deliver, and the United Nations World Food Programme; Stuart Vevers, who will receive the Amazon Innovation Award for his work with his sub-brand Coachtopia, which he launched last year with a focus on circularity and sustainability; Daniel Roseberry from Schiaparelli, who will receive the International Designer Award; and Stephen Burrows, who dazzled the Paris fashion crowd at the Battle of Versailles in 1973 and received a lifetime achievement award. Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo, who passed away from cancer in 2019, was not only deemed worthy of the Board of Directors Award, but the name of the award was also changed in her honor; and hereinafter referred to as Tribute to the Board of Directors of Isabel Toledo.

Also recognized this evening is photographer Annie Leibovitz, who will receive the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard; The Founder’s Award in Honor of Eleanor Lambert will be given generally to Hamish Bowles, editor of Vogue and creative director of World of Interiors magazine. The incomparable singer-songwriter Erykah Badu is crowned with this year’s Fashion Icon award.
