Canton Fire said Monday afternoon Canton firefighters were dispatched to a home where a 5-year-old child was allegedly starting a fire.

Canton Fire said around 3:40 p.m., firefighters responded to a residential fire on Greenfield Street SW. When they arrived at the house, they saw heavy fire coming from the second floor of the house.

Canton Fire said it was determined that everyone in the home had evacuated prior to the department’s arrival.

The fire was extinguished, and Canton Fire said during their investigation, it was determined that a 5-year-old child had started the fire in his second-floor bedroom.

Canton Fire said the home was heavily damaged and uninhabitable. The Red Cross was called to help the family.

No one was injured in the fire.
