A Punjabi man appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, accused of three counts of attempted murder against a woman and two children who were stabbed in east London last week.

Kulvinder Ram, 48, was arrested following the stabbings in Dagenham.

“Three people, a woman in her 30s, an eight-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy, were found with stab wounds. The Metropolitan Police said all three were taken to hospital for treatment and none of their conditions were considered life-threatening.

Ram, who was taken to the hospital with the victims after he became ill, was later detained by the police after an evaluation.

The Metropolitan Police said all parties were known to each other. However, they did not provide further details. The investigation into the incident continues.

Detective Constable Lewis Basford, who was in charge of the police in the area where the incident took place, condemned the attack as ‘truly shocking’. “I would like to thank local residents for their help,” Basford added.

“The scene will remain in place for some time while our officers carry out vital work. “Police presence will be increased in the area in the coming days,” he said, calling on citizens to contact police officers with any information that could assist the investigation.
