911 ‘order pizza’ call saves woman from attacker

PIERSON, Fla. — A Florida woman’s call for help might sound like a pizza order, but it was actually a cry for help, lawmakers said.

According to an article on the website Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Facebook pageThe 911 center received a call around 4 a.m. on Oct. 19 from a woman who had ordered pizza.

But deputies said the dispatcher quickly realized the caller was in real danger.

“Our communications team was able to triangulate his phone because he was unable to give us the address of his location because it was on a property in Pierson (Florida),” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

The sheriff said the caller was able to tell the operator that he was being held by a person who was not armed. Using these coordinates, teams were dispatched to the scene.

“Deputies exited on foot and began searching,” Chitwood said in a Facebook post. “Finally they heard loud music coming from the field. When they approached the sound they saw a male on top of a screaming female.”

In the footage captured on the deputy’s body camera, the woman was heard screaming for help.

“He’s trying to rape me!” The victim could be heard screaming.

Arriving deputies quickly handcuffed the suspect and assured the woman, “We are here, we are here.”

“Thank God. Thank God,” the woman was heard telling law enforcement. “He tried to rape me.”

The sheriff said the woman knew the attacker, they went to the field to have a few drinks and that’s what happened.

“However, during this trip (the suspect) used some cocaine and she said he became extremely violent, did not let her go and tried to rape her,” Chitwood said.

The sheriff complimented his deputies for making the arrest and the woman for her quick thinking in concealing the 911 call.

“I can’t say enough about the amazing work shown in this video and the smart thinking of this victim who found a way to call for help,” Chitwood said.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect, 27-year-old Luis Diego Hernandez-Moncayo, was in the United States illegally and “reportedly filed for asylum the day before this occurred.”

Hernandez-Moncayo was jailed and faces charges of attempted sexual assault, battery by strangulation and false imprisonment.
