Rome Capital has announced an important initiative to promote sports practices among citizens: a call for proposals has been published, allocating one and a half million euros to sports vouchers. This amount will be allocated to disabled persons who hold a disability certificate recognized in accordance with Law No. 104 and to young people aged 5 to 16 who reside in Rome and belong to families whose ISEE does not exceed 40,000 euros. The initiative, strongly supported by sports council member Alessandro Onorato, aims to make sports accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical, social or economic situation. “We are excited to announce that Roma families can now apply for a 500-euro sports bonus,” Onorato said. “The main reason for physical inactivity is economic and that is why we confirmed that the project was launched last year, giving vouchers to 4,100 people, including 859 people with disabilities.” Applications for vouchers must be made online only via SPID access between 23 October and 14 November 2024. Requests will be evaluated in two separate rankings, one for people with disabilities and the other for young people with low ISEE. In case of insufficient resources, priority for disabled candidates will be given to those with a higher degree of disability, and in case of equality, to those with a lower ISEE income. Families with lower ISEE scores for youth will be given priority in the chronological order of applications in the event of a tie. Among the innovations of this edition is that the coupon is retroactive. As Onorato explains, “Parents who have already paid for a course in September will be able to receive a refund.” The initiative has also seen the number of accredited facilities rise from 140 in 2023 to over 210 this year, with 20,000 courses available. Even the Speaker of the Congressional Assembly, Svetlana Celli, reiterated the importance of this project: “We support the right of many families and people with disabilities to sports. Sports is well-being, participation, sociability and growth.” Interested citizens will be able to access the Rome Capital portal and request a voucher via SPID by selecting the municipality, sports club and branch of interest.
