A friend of Liam’s, Sam recently paid a heartfelt tribute to the late singer.

Taking to Instagram, he said: “I can’t believe I’m writing this post. I can’t believe you are gone in this way. This is how I’ll always remember brother.

“The happy, funny, and talented brother, father, and friend. Praying for my sweet kind sister @roo0990 we love you. @conorleebutler my guy praying for you as well.

“We made some awesome and beautiful music together that will live on forever. Love you @liampayne bro! RIP.”

Last week, One Direction’s catalog saw a return to the Official Charts as fans rallied in support of the group.

Chart-topping 2013 record Midnight Memories led the group’s uplift. With combined UK sales and streams increasing 517% week-on-week according to Official Charts Company data, the album returned to the Top 40 for the first time in 10 years (13).

Midnight Memories was followed by 2015’s Made In The AM (21), 2014 release FOUR (22), 2012’s Take Me Home (25) and 2011 debut Up All Night (38).

Elsewhere, Liam’s 2019 solo record LP1 returned to the Top 100 (62).

On last week’s Official Singles Chart, One Direction’s Night Changes reached a new all-time peak of Number 6, having previously reached Number 7 in 2013. Story Of My Life also re-entered at Number 9, while What Makes You Beautiful lifted to Number 23.
